Our Mission Statement

At Greenfields Nursery we are committed to providing outstanding outcomes for all our children. We recognise that each child deserves to be respected and valued as a person in their own right.

Our supportive and experienced team acknowledge that the child is at the centre of everything we do. The nursery curriculum is created by listening to and responding to the needs and interests of every child and is developed by igniting curiosity, awe, and wonder. Our indoor and outdoor environments flow into one another and provide children with new and challenging experiences. Learning is fun and engaging and inspires children to reach their full potential.

We offer children real and authentic resources which encourages exploration, creativity and inventiveness through multi- sensory discovery.

Children are encouraged and motivated to become confident and individual learners in surroundings where they have a sense of belonging.

Our emphasis is to provide exceptional care within a framework of the highest ethical standards. We value parental and community involvement as being an integral part of our ethos and welcome parents to work in partnership with the nursery. We recognise that a strong parent partnership and an involvement in learning, provides children with strong foundations for all future development.

Our nursery will offer your child a safe and wonderous place to play and learn. A place to discover endless possibilities, to master new skills, to challenge themselves, to value their natural environment and the community in which they live. To make friends and to make memories to carry with them to their next adventure.

“The staff team are extremely resourceful and see the potential and learning opportunities in a range of real and natural items” Local Authority Annual Conversation April 2022

“The environment both inside and out is inspiring and worthy of being shared with others. The children have access to the most interesting and curious resources that are full of awe and wonder and effectively and consistently promote the characteristics of effective learning. In every area of the nursery these resources are presented with thought and consideration to capture the children’s interest and encourage imagination.” Local Authority Annual Conversation April 2022

What is The Curiosity Approach?

Curiosity is the desire to learn. It is an eagerness to explore, discover and figure things out. Early Years settings play a significant role in creating opportunities for children to develop and grow within an environment which challenges and excites a love of learning.

At Greenfields we have adopted a new approach to Early Years education and develop The Curiosity Approach within our setting. This new approach has been developed by Lyndsey Hellyn and Stephanie Bennett who are the cofounders and have over 50 years teaching experience between them. This approach moves away from conventional ‘plastic’ toys and replaces them with natural and ‘real’ objects, thus creating that ‘Awe and Wonder’ and a curious mind.

Why Choose The Curiosity Approach?

As well as making exciting play spaces for children to learn we want to introduce ‘Awe and Wonder’ for our children and to offer them new play experiences they may not have encountered before. We want to create inspirational spaces for children to be curious, learn and play.

In our throwaway society we need to be creative in our ideas and ways to help reduce the impact on our environment. To recycle, salvage and revamp old furniture and make use of items we would normally replace. Teach our children respect for objects and items and the planet we live upon. The purpose of choosing this approach is to allow children to make choices and take risks in their play and to use their imagination

How we do this?

How lucky are we? Yes our Manager, Teresa Foster is the The Curiosity Approach Ambassador for Shepway and Kent Downs!

Staff work alongside Teresa and with her help the team strive to constantly review and update our provision to meet the needs of all children who attend.

Together, our team will work closely with parents, to foster a love of learning and provide the children in our care  with the best possible start for their future learning journey.

Teresa offers Discovery sessions throughout the year for other early years settings, our staff and parents. See our events area for details!

Maths and literacy are consistently promoted across all areas of the nursery, pockets of interest, for example bees or fairies, include relevant books, props and mark making resources. The construction area includes items of different sizes and weights with tools for measuring and weighing, along with mark making resources. The home corner has been extended and includes a kitchen area, seating and a dressing table, again books, maths and mark making resources are evident”.

“The children display high levels of involvement, and their behaviour is exemplary. Children confidently access the range of resources and activities available to them and demonstrate respect for each other and the environment. The manager explains how the settings ethos embeds the importance of looking after and respecting the resources, for example at the end of the day all dolls are dressed and put down to sleep rather than packed in a box”.

The Forest School

What do we mean by the term Forest School and what is the purpose and aims?

In 2002 the Forest School Conference with support from the Forestry Commission and the Forest Education Initiative formed a network. This network defined Forest School as,

‘ An inspirational process that offers children, young people and adults regular opportunities to achieve, develop confidence and self esteem through hands on learning experiences in a local woodland environment ‘ (Forest School-England-Network 2002)

At Grenfields Nursery we want to give our children the opportunity to develop and grow within an area of natural beauty. To be given hands on challenges and experiences which develop their fine and gross motor skills and social interactions. For them to develop an inner strength which builds resilience and confidence and increased well-being. Our Forest School sessions give our children a respect for nature and the natural world that surrounds them. We believe that giving our children these skills will lay the foundations for all other learning to take place. The skills that are developed through regular Forest School experiences will help shape our children’s future, not only in academic achievements but, in a love and respect for the world in which we live.

Teresa is a qualified Forest school leader and with staff will be take a group of 10 children each  session, each week, to take part in Forest School sessions. We  offer these sessions initially, to those children who will be leaving for school in September, however, there may be some spaces available for youger children, who we feel, have the skills that are needed in order to keep safe when attending  All children will have the opportunity to take part during their last year before school.

Parent Statements

I have sent all my three children to Greenfields over the past 10 years. I have always been very impressed with their level of pastoral care. All my children have been nurtured and supported on an emotional level. Greenfields is a ‘home from home’ they have created a calm and not over stimulating environment and I love that the resources are so natural and that they incorporate items from real life into play and learning.

I have been very pleased With the constant feedback I receive about my daughter, Willow’s progress.

In short, I rate Greenfields nursery very highly and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to others.

Your extra support is quickly making a difference with his confidence and we are so grateful.

thank-you for the great pictures and updates on him, we really enjoy looking at his golden moments!

I have noticed a positive change in going into nursery and when I have picked him up he tells me he has had a nice time and made friends Which is really reassuring, It’s also great we will be getting regular updates on his progress throughout the time he is there.

She has a lovely time with you, thank you for looking after her so kindly. She will often talk about you at home.

He absolutely loves coming to nursery and playing with his friends. I have seen and noticed how much his development has come along with imaginative play, his speech and words and also recently him noticing people feelings and knowing they are feeling sad etc. thank you for the little update.

it’s lovely to hear from the report that she’s making new friendships as the year progresses

Thank you for the report , you know her very well

Just read Autum 2022, very good! Thanks for the feedback
