Childhood Illnesses – Parent Guidance

Posted On: March 20, 2025

Last week we saw a few cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth within the nursery and had to send a few children home, asking parents to confirm the infection with their GP.

Today, a few more parents have called in to say that their child has also got Hand, Foot  and Mouth and are quite poorly.

Hand, Foot and Mouth is a common disease amoung children.

The main signs are….

Blisters on hands, feet and around the mouth, this can be anywhere on the face , including the ears.

Sore throat, tempreture and generally feeling unwell.

NHS advice is to stay home and let the disease run its course, drink plenty of fluids and eat soft foods. If your child has a fever give Calpol or Ibuprofen, you may want to confirm the disease with your GP and ask for further advice.

If you think your child may have Hand, Foot and Mouth please keep them at home to avoid the spread of infection to other children and staff, it is highly infectious and is spread very easily. We will ask you to collect your child if we suspect they have the disease.

Please read the advice on the attached link below.

We have also had 3 confirmed cases of Chicken pox.

The main symptom of chickenpox is an itchy, spotty rash. It can be anywhere on the body.

Before or after the rash appears, you might also have:

  • a high temperature
  • aches and pains, and generally feel unwell
  • loss of appetite

Your child will need to stay off nursery until all the spots have formed a scab. This is usually 5 days after the spots first appeared.

Please read the advice on the attached link below.
